Christmas Wish From Mrs. Freebes

Dear Saints Joachim and Anne School Family,

May the Peace of Christ’s Love be with you

This week we began Advent as we lit the First Candle of Hope on our Advent Wreath. Waiting for Jesus’ birth is a fervent and exciting time. It gives us the opportunity to reflect on all the reasons we are so grateful for the birth of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The children pray every day and remember to do an act of kindness or make a small sacrifice to ready their hearts for this magnificent event.

Our Faith lights the way for love, joy and peace which is so needed in our chaotic world. May each candle bring you the desire which you hold so closely in your heart. The children in our care are the greatest gift that we have received. As you unwrap your Christmas gifts on December 25th, remember that Jesus loves you now and forever.

Christmas blessings,

Mrs. Linda Freebes, Principal

Welcome Letter From Mrs. Freebes

The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will renew you in His Love. He will exult over you with loud singing as on a day of festival.

Zephaniah 3:17

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

In all things, put on Christ. Welcome Back to School Year 2017-18. We hope that you have had many treasured moments to enjoy during July and August. We pray for those who suffer in Texas because of the violent rain and winds of Tropical Storm Harvey. We look back at Hurricane Sandy and thank God that it is behind us.

Ss. Joachim and Anne School has been quite busy throughout the summer. The school received new wiring throughout the building to enable us to receive the internet at a faster speed and more access in each classroom. We thank E-Rate, DeSales Media and Knight Nets for their expertise.  Please come and visit our STREAM Lab during Open School Night. It is amazing! Imprinted on its walls are the words: Faith, Dream, Believe, Invent, Imagine, Innovate, Excellence and Achieve. All words which will inspire our students to become our future scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, mathematicians, inventors, database administrators, programmers and so much more. It will encourage our students to try new strategies when they struggle to learn a concept and that the brain is a muscle that physically changes with training. We are blessed, for this is just the beginning of a plethora of new experiences for our beautiful children.

This year we would like to welcome – Mr. David Laura to Grade 5, Mrs. Linda Nicholson to Grade 2, Mr. Greg Veras our new Physical Education teacher and Ms. Darlene Murtagh, a para for Nursery. We know they are rooted in our core values and that their stay will be beneficial for all of our students.

As always, we thank our parents and guardians for choosing SsJA for the past 93 years. We are indebted to you for sharing your most important treasures, your children, with us. Together, with Gods grace, we will make a difference in this world. Our Catholic Identity teaches us to be Welcoming, to Worship God, to spread the Word ? the Gospel Message, to be a Witness of His Love, to provide for the Welfare of our students, to impart Wisdom and encourage the Wonder of Learning.

Happy New Year 2017-2018!

Blessings and prayers,

Mrs. Linda Freebes, Principal

Principal’s Message, October 24, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

May the Peace of Christ be with you

The School Family of Ss. Joachim and Anne is saddened by the sudden death of our parent, Ms. Keisha Scarlett, the mother of Surena Lewis, Grade 1. Ms. Scarlett was on a business trip in the country of Jamaica and was killed in a tragic car accident. Ms. Scarlett was a kind and loving parent. Pleas pray for the repose of her soul and in your charity please send a donation to assist the family at this difficult time.

We are elated that our Gospel Choir sang for the Catholic Education Summit. They entertained Bishop DiMarzio, Bishop Massa, members of the Diocesan office as well as an audience of 500 people.

Our children sang out for Jesus. They conducted themselves with dignity and integrity. We are proud of them and it is our hope that they will continue to manifest these talents and behavior in the future.

Thank you for sharing your children with Ss. Joachim and Ann School Family.

Many blessings,

Mrs. Linda Freebes, Principal

Principal’s Letter, August 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

So summer is moving quickly to a close and so much promise of the new school year lies ahead. Ss. Joachim and Anne School is now 92 years young. We are anxious to initiate one of our goals of transforming ourselves into a STREAM school. You may ask what does STREAM mean. Our focus will be Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Math. Our “transformational teachers” will incorporate these letters into units of study. This is a portrait of STREAM –

“A collaborative lesson was made by a fifth grade teacher where she created a unit plan on “The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.” The story talks about the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Michelangelo. The study of the Pieta and the Sistine Chapel was incorporated into a class lesson. Students became Michelangelo for a day, utilizing markers. Another day, students worked with a partner to design a scale model scaffolding for painting the Sistine Chapel. They then calculated the approximate ratio of the average man and the statue of David.” (Momentum, pp.29-30)

As one can readily see, all components of the STREAM classroom were applied. What an adventure for our students to experience! Collaboration is the key and we have planned Professional Development for the Administration and the Faculty in conjunction with our cluster schools to make this undertaking a spectacular learning experience for our creative, inventive and ingenious students.

We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome back Mr. Raffaele Corso as our Assistant Principal. Mr. Schoolfield had decided to go on to some new endeavors, but at the last minute decided to remain with us. We are elated that he will continue to teach ELA to the 7th & 3th Grades and remain the 3th Grade Homeroom Teacher. He will assume the roles of Academic Counselor and Parent Liaison as well. Mrs. Freire retired and we thank her for the many years that she created a classroom of literature, crafts and the love of learning in Jesus’ Name. We also would like to welcome Ms. April Laracuenti to Grade 1, Mrs. Adrieru1e Arenas to Kindergarten, and Ms. Myriam Gillis as our new Physical Education Teacher. The children will enjoy Ms. Gillis’ new Zumba classes too! Mr. Fox, our custodian, is pursuing a new career. We will always remain grateful and indebted to him for his loving service to SsJA.

You, dear parents/guardians are the essential and dominant link in the education of our students. Your words are the inspiration of learning, your praise is their incentive to succeed, your thoughts are the kaleidoscope of their new creative ideas and your prayers lead them to the loving embrace of Our Lord, the path of goodness for themselves and everyone they meet.

Thank you for choosing SsJA as we proclaim together in Jesus’ words, “Let the children come to me and do not prevent them. For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19: 14
