Homework is assigned on a daily basis. The purpose of homework is to reinforce skills and concepts taught during the school day. I am asking that parents check their child’s homework daily. Some parents have made it a practice to initial the homework. Students should also make it a practice to review notes and study on a consistent basis. Students should be read to daily and they should practice their number facts.
Happy Fall to You All! Enclosed is your child’s monthly portfolio. It contains some of the work they completed this past month. Please review carefully, and feel free to revisit any areas of interest with your child. Please take out all the work and RETURN the folder back with your child on the following school day.
The portfolio includes a personal progress report and helpful strategies to help your child succeed at home. Please continue to encourage your child to be responsible for their learning.
On October 1st, we began our new Reading program. It consists of comprehension strategies, early reading tools, vocabulary, phonics, and spelling. The children are progressing, and we are excited to see them grow into readers and writers.
As of November 1st, your child will be required to read daily for 10 minutes (either fiction and non-fiction) and write one sentence about what they read that evening. Reading books should be at your child’s reading level or need. Please do not read books that are too challenging as this will not encourage them to read. This should be independently enjoyable and enrich what they are learning in school.
Our first field trip has been scheduled for October 30th to Green Meadows Farm. The fee per person is $20. Please be on the lookout for permission slips within the next several weeks.
Homework should be signed daily and checked for completion. Please clean out your child’s bookbag and folder at the beginning of every month. Organization is key!
Thank you for your support and cooperation,
First Grade Teachers
